How to Install a Metal Horizontal Slat Fence Panel?
Post Types
Two types of posts are used in louver fence railing installation. One type is what we call half-flanged posts, which are used along walls. The other type is what we call full-flanged posts, which are used in the middle sections. Installation begins from the wall, using a half-flanged post. The posts are 60x60x1.5 mm in size and galvanized.
Louver Orientation Determination
The front and back faces of the posts determine the direction of the louver pattern. In standard installation, the embossed louver patterns face the exterior of the structure.
Installing the louver upside down or right side up determines the direction of the air vents. In standard installation, the air vents remain at the bottom, and when viewed from the front, the air vents are not visible.
This is the louver appearance we should see when looking from the outside of the structure. The bent patterns should face outwards, and their direction should be as shown above.
Post Installation
Post installation always starts from the wall with a half-flanged post. The post is placed against the wall and centered. For post installation, you can use Buldex screws or anchors. Buldex screws are easier to install than anchors. After positioning the starting point of the post, mark the locations for the anchor holes. Use a 6-10 mm drill bit for the hammer drill, depending on whether you are using Buldex screws or anchors. During drilling, hold the hammer drill perpendicular to the wall and avoid circular movements to prevent widening the hole.
Your drilling depth should be approximately 8 cm. After drilling, we recommend removing dust from around the hole. After cleaning the hole, if you are using anchors, inject epoxy into the holes.
The epoxy dries in approximately 10 minutes. Once dry, drive in the anchors of the first post and tighten the nuts until all wobbling of the post ceases, securing it completely.
In the installation table sent with your product, the distances between posts for each section are provided in a table. The inner-to-inner measurement between 2 posts is (louver length – 3 cm). The louvers insert 1.5 cm into the posts on the right and left.
After post installation, louver installation can begin. After the louvers are inserted into their slots in the right and left posts, they are secured to the posts with fastening brackets.
Two louver fastening brackets are used for each louver. A total of two louver fastening brackets are attached to the right and left of each louver.
It is crucial that the fastening brackets are fully seated in their slots. These brackets prevent the louvers from vibrating and becoming dislodged.
Louver fastening can also be done in 2 different ways.
Individuals who do not wish to use fastening brackets can secure the louvers with self-drilling screws or silicone.
Louver Fastening Process
You can secure the louvers in 2 ways.
- Using sheet metal screws
- Using silicone
Using Sheet Metal Screws
Once all louvers are installed, from the back of the railing, insert the louver fastening screws with a drill into the indicated spots, as shown in the image below. You can use 3.9×16 pan head sheet metal screws.
Secure all louvers by inserting fastening screws. Unsecured louvers may shift left and right over time.
Using Silicone
You can secure the louvers by applying silicone where they join the posts. Using silicone is easier than fastening with screws. You can secure your louvers to the posts using silicone in the color of the louver.
After securing the louvers, secure the next post to the wall and install the louvers in between.
Attention
Epoxy is a very fast-setting product. Drill your holes sufficiently before opening the epoxy.
